Grading

Yep, that's pretty much accurate.

If you were grading an English paper written by a junior in college, and they spelled clock "klox", would you be dismayed?

I can certainly feel your pain. Heaven knows, after assigning research papers to all five of my classes, I've read enough bad grammar to make an editor go crazy.
Shall I mention that I proofread and made corrections to no less than TWO drafts before they turned in these final papers.
I wonder if I was just wasting my time making all those corrections. Some groups completely disregarded them.

Maybe they thought they were texting.

Are we opening this can of worms? Why do I feel like a member of the cultural elite because I can discriminate the functional uses of "your" and "you're?" It's maddening. We're losing technical writing in this sad little over stimulated society. Yuck.
