Heh, that subject line is actually really funny, and I think you're about to see why.
I'm seriously considering doing my master's/Ph.D. at BYU.
Inorite? It sounds crazy, but I think it might be a good idea. I think I could deal with Happy Valley and its annoyingly wholesome nature, I think I could deal with the Honor Code and its prohibition of facial hair, I think I could even deal with the idea of going to The School Down South, because there'd be the blessing of being surrounded by Latter-day Saints and not having to deal (_as_much) with the problems of the world.
The one thing I'm really concerned about is, is this a good career move? The U is quite a prestigious math school, and even though I'll probably have to leave it eventually, I don't know if BYU has the same rep as like an Ohio State or a Nebraska or an Illinois.
Anyway, I dunno, just sort of my stream of consciousness from today.

Who am I to tell you what to do? I can tell you that BYU is a great school for a lot of things, but if you think you'll be free from the problems or peoples of the world. There are as many worldly gross problems at BYU as anywhere else...ok, maybe a FEW less but you can be sure you can still find all the trouble and WILLFUL sin in Provo as anywhere else. And everyone dresses like the Gap opened up a time capsule from 10 years ago.
Okay, so what you're saying is, my clothing style would totally fit in?
I mean to say that if you think you'll be free from the troubles of the world, you won't be. Everyone still has choices and sometimes people are jerks. And sometimes people surprise you with their awesomeness. I loved BYU. Provo was just ok, in my experience.
And because I know you're wondering, yes, there are a lot of cutesie girlies of marriageable age at BYU. And at the U. You just gotsta MINGLE with the SINGLES. Try hanging around the nursing school, you never know...
